"Working with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Road Safety Department (JKJR), we are proud to say we have extended from the previous Hari Raya Road Safety Campaign in Seremban Rest Area to three locations for the Chinese New Year period with the main aim of promoting awareness on tyre safety to the motorists during this festive season," says Mr Sim Wee Chung, Head of Sales - PLT & Marketing of CST PJ. The 5-day campaign starts from 28th January until 1st February at 3 locations:

Damn YOU For Treating Your Puppy As A Punching Bag!

A VIDEO circulating on the Internet shows a man forcing a dog to stand on its hind legs and beating it repeatedly each time it failed to do so.

The ordeal lasted for 15 minutes, and probably more.

In the video, he is seemingly trying to train the dog to stand on its hind legs and is heard telling it in Cantonese to "stand upright".

When the dog is unable to do so, he will beat it and shout at it. The man is seen punching the dog in the face, slapping it and throwing it across the room.

At one point, he hit the dog so hard that it flew into the air and landed a distance away from him.

After a few failed attempts, he moved the dog to a computer and made it stand on top of it, despite it being clearly exhausted.

A few minutes later, he shouted at the dog, who then fell off and lay on the floor.

He picked it up, tried to make it stand again and hurled it around when it did not manage to stand upright.

The dog appeared visibly exhausted by now and each time it started to slump, the man became frustrated and hit it continuously.

After 10 minutes, the man asks why does it not have any energy to stand upright.

A woman's voice can also be heard in the video but there were no attempts on her part to stop him.

She merely said towards the end of the video: "It has no energy, dear."

Netizens have identified the man in the video and according to chat transcripts posted online, this video was shot about three years ago and the poodle is now dead.

A woman revealed in the chat transcripts that he now owns a shih tzu. Netizens have expressed concern over whether the shih tzu will be ill-treated.

The woman who posted the video online said that she found a thumbdrive containing the file at Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) in Malaysia.

While netizens have identified the couple in the video, SPCA stated that they are working with their Malaysian counterpart on this and are appealing for information on the man in the video.

Shingles - Love It? No? Just Prevent It!

Little Shingles(Chicken Pox' Vengence) Precaution for all of you who don't want to suffer severe pain. (If unlucky, the pain can be like being stabbed, burnt and poked, maybe itchy). Take a minute to imagine Now, you see the important point?

Shingles is more common in people after 50 years old, but young people also can kena. There are vaccine available but I'm not sure if it really works. Anyway, it's good to learn the early symptoms:

1) Skin feels pain/burning but you don't see any changes on the skin. (May take 1-14 days for early symptom)
2) Flu-like symptom, muscle tired or back ache (Maybe)
3) Fever(Maybe)
4) Will feel wanting to eat more sugar(Maybe)
5) General tiredness, malaise.
* Maybe means I didn't have those symptoms but others have it but I have cold symptom on the same day that i have skin pain. See pictures.

from week 1 - Week3
5) Skin gets pinkish and little bumps about 1mm starts to pop up. Skin still burning. Only on one side of the body. There are people who gets two sides(rarely i think)
6) More bumps coming up and if you look carefully, the earlier bumps starts to form very tiny blisters.
7) Then, more bumps and getting bigger and damn painful :( burning, pricking, and like poking on your muscles.
8) Later, the bumps will dry. Some may be broken accidentally, and starts to scab or it will be dry and become flat.

week 4 - week 5
9) Scabs will form... just prickly pain now and then at this stage, but may be very bad for some people - maybe old people.

*THIS PART VERY IMPORTANT
If you have any of the symptoms in preliminary section, go to your doctor and get antiviral(not antibiotic--> only works on bacteria but this is a virus) - within 3 days to be effective
[From web: Such drugs include acyclovir and valacyclovir, and are used to help shorten the outbreak of the virus, thus diminishing the possibility of developing Post-Herpetic Neuralgia. The anti-viral drug Valtrex, a brand of valacylovir, has recently been developed, tested, and approved by the FDA for the treatment of Shingles. Vitamin C and bioflavonoids are also helpful as they are thought to have anti-viral activity. ]
If you manage to get this drug, you can contain the virus within 1 week!, from bumps to scabs. If not contained, it may spread more and it's very dangerous if it gets to the eye region, which may result in scar on the eye hence, lessen your visual ability.

BUT if you are too late ... still got help:
1) Take Vitamin B complex - B6 to increase immunity and B12 to promote nerve regeneration
2) Take vitamin C - to build immunity and an article mentioned that it is though to have antiviral activity.
3) For the pain - paracetamol doesn't work. Get Non-steroid pain relieve, like IBUPROFEN(brand is Nurofen - also anti-inflammatory). If it is more pain...
Found this on a webpage:[For mild to moderate pain, acetaminophen (Tylenol) or over-the-counter non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), naproxen (Aleve), and ketoprofen (Orudis KT) can be effective. For moderate to severe pain, more powerful pain killers may be needed, such as prescription NSAIDs or narcotic analgesics. Corticosteroids (for example, prednisone, methylprednisolone, cortisone, and hydrocortisone) are also sometimes prescribed to reduce the pain, discomfort, inflammation, redness, and itching associated with the rash and blisters.]
4) Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink lots of water, rest well at home and don't get sunshine on it.

but if don't take care and too late.. one may get Post Herpetic Neuralgia(PHN). Nerve pain even after the scaps are gone. Can lasts up to years but this so far is beyond my scope of experiment. :P You can read more in an article I attached. Also, some people have it a few times..although most people only have it once.

Lastly,
PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE - it's better to avoid it! Eat some multivitamin pills daily, fruits, vegetables, exercise, relax.. that's all I can help.

Normally, those below 50 years old won't be too severe. It's more severe in older people. Sorry to scare you but better not have it at all.

Take care.

WHAT TO DO IF STOPPED BY MALAYSIAN POLICE

I received this artical telling us on how to react when stop by policemen if they are not in their uniforms, we may not know if they are con men. So, yeah... found the article informative and interesting to know.... at least something that we can learn about when being stopped by them. Happy reading.

The next time you are stopped by persons who claimed they are plain clothes police, you are under no obligation to answer their questions or follow their orders, lawyers told Malaysiakini today.

'Policeman who is not wearing his uniform does not have the authority to stop anyone,' lawyer and human rights activist Sivarasa Rasiah said.

Sivarasa was commenting on the alleged gang-rape of an 18-year-old Uni student by four men claiming to be police officers on New Year's Eve. The girl said that her car was stopped in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur and were asked by the men to open the car bonnet. She was then told that she had committed an offence and ordered to follow the men to a police station. The girl was driven in her car along the North-South expressway to the Tapah-Cameron Highlands road before she was raped in an oil palm estate.

This incident, and many others, have sparked confusion over the procedures which motorists must follow when flagged down by the police. The most common problem is that most people take instructions without determining if the other person is really a cop,' lawyer Annie Santiago said.

However, if you are stopped by a uniformed policeman, then you are required to stop. But you need not get out of the car because you are not expected to do so, Santiago said. The other rule to follow is to provide your identity card only when you are asked to do so. 'Even then, you should get his ID first to confirm if he is a cop. There is no harm in calling the relevant police station to verify if he is supposed to be on duty that day,' Sivarasa said.

Both lawyers said that motorists should never follow an officer to the police station unless one is under arrest . 'If you are not sure, and your instincts tell you that something is wrong, then drive off to the nearest police station and lodge a report,' Sivarasa said.

In response to the alleged gang-rape of the 18-year-old, Women's Aid Organisation executive-secretary Ivy Josiah called on the police to launch an education program to teach the public about their rights to prevent them from being victimised by bogus police officers.

Procedures to follow in the event you are stopped by uniformed police Officers while driving:

1. Stop the car and wind down your window.

2. If the police officers ask for your documents, request to see their IDs first.

3. If you are satisfied about their identity, ask them if you are being summoned, and for what offense.

4. Produce your identity card and driver's license and wait to collect your summon ticket.

In the event that the police officers ask you to follow them to the police station:

1. Ask if you are under arrest and for what offense.

2. If you are not under arrest, you have the right to leave.

In the event you are flagged down by persons you believe could be plain clothes police:

1. Do not stop because plain clothes police officers do not have the authority to stop you.

2. Drive to the nearest police station and lodge a report. (The same procedure applies to pedestrians)

In the event the police come to your house:

1. Do not let them in before checking their IDs.

2. If you are not satisfied, phone the nearest police station and confirm if they had been sent to your house.

3. You are under no obligation to allow them into the house if they don't have a search warrant.

4. Do not go with them if you are not under arrest.

In the event persons who claimed to be plain clothes police who come to your house:

1. Do not let him in because they do not have the authority to do so.

2.. Lodge a report at the nearest police station.

Greater KL MRT Kota Damansara-Cheras Line

Greater Kuala Lumpur project seems to be pretty good. With the new MRT line linking Sg Buloh - Kajang (Red Line), we don't have to bother driving from PJ to KL anymore. But, there is one thought, what about Hartamas and Mon't Kiara? Have they overlooked on that area? There are so many high rise condo units coming up and most are already almost nearing completion. It's definitely gonna cause huge traffic congestion in time to come. I guess they must have had the "rich people don't ride public transport" thoughts when they were planning on the route I guess. Or, let the rich fellas take a bus to Eastin and ride the MRT instead!

Anyway, here are some very good information that was shared by patchay.com. Have fun reading.

Caught In The Act! And Stop Putting Our Lives At Risk!

As I was driving from Ipoh to KL yesterday I had this bus overtaking me while I was already driving at 120kmph. He was speeding in fact faster than I am. Despite the many bus accidents and crashes or whatsoever accident caused by these irresponsible bus drivers, I never see any action being taken against them. And obviously, this bus driver has not learnt from all these bus accidents news reports.

How many of you who travels on the North South Expressway experienced the similar situation? We,car drivers, at most are only ferrying 4 passengers in our cars, but these bus drivers are ferrying 24 people at least! When are they going to realize on their action? Only when they get into another crash on the highway?

If you are a police officer reading this post, do something about this bus company! If you are a bus passenger, avoid taking buses from this company. We get either get them summoned, or, boycott the company for putting our lives at risk!

StarMart Express or Qistna the Massage Coach! BTW, the bus slowed down when he caught me filming him driving and immediately swerved from the right to the left lane. What an idiot!

"Love In Disguise” which will be premiering on 13th August, talks about a superstar Wang Lee Hom who despite seeming to be very successful in his entertainment career and having a smooth life, yet he feels empty and regret deep in his heart. Once, his nanny van (褓母車) hit a folk m

Immediately, he decided to slip into the conservatory with his good friend-cum-band partner Chen Han Dian, searching for Liu Yi Fei’s “overtones” (絃外之音).

The Sound Of Music - The Cast Reunion

"The Sound of Music" cast reunited for the first time in 45 years on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" Thursday (Oct. 28) and it was immensely sentimental and satisfying for fans of the movie.

From the production stills decorating the set to the montages of both on-screen and behind-the-scenes footage to Christopher Plummer bringing the actors who played the Von Trapp children to the stage using the infamous whistle, the "Sound of Music" reunion was everything we hoped it would be.

Julie Andrews relayed a story of how the helicopter that filmed her famous opening sequence on the Austrian hill kept circling around behind her to reset for the next take and knocking her to the ground.

Plummer laughed about his rebel ways during filming, how he would cavort around the Austrian countryside, getting to know the local bars quite well. In fact, his on-screen daughter Charmian Carr (Liesl) says she learned from Plummer "how to drink," as she was 21 years old at the time of filming. She also confesses to having a huge crush on Plummer -- c'mon, who didn't have one?

Andrews also addresses her vocal problems and how she no longer has the singing voice she once did -- "I have about six good low, low notes. I can sing the hell out of 'Old Man River' if you really want me to."

A wonderful feature of the episode were these brief interviews with big fans of the movie, sharing how it impacted their lives. The real standout was a man named Rick whose wife dragged him to "The Sound of Music" a few months before he left for Vietnam -- and then while he was serving in Vietnam, he watched the movie 127 times and went to another, peaceful place for three hours.

Another interesting bit of trivia the special shares is that young Richard Dreyfus, Kurt Russell and Mia Farrow were all considered to be cast as the Von Trapp children, before director Robert Wise went with a bunch of unknowns.

There was some great archive footage of Andrews singing with the real Maria Von Trapp in 1973, which leads into the great-grandchildren of Maria and the Captain -- Amanda, Sophia, Melanie and Justin, the Von Trapp Children Singers, all between the ages of 16 and 22. They closed the show with "Edelweiss" as more footage of the movie played.

It was a wonderful special.

The Top 10 Reasons Why Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) Is An Advertisers Most Powerful Tool.

DOOH’s Inherent Characteristics and Maturity make it a Valuable Arrow in the Brand and Agency Quiver.
By Lyle Bunn

The new medium of Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH), which is also called Out-of-Home Video Advertising, In-Store TV, Captive Audience TV, Digital Signage, Dynamic Digital Display or other names, offers advertisers one of the most targeted and powerful ways of reaching consumers.

It extends the reach of TV to be “OOH TV,” of in-home internet to be the consumeraddressable “OuterNet” or serves as a “middle media” to drive consumers to a website or motivate mobile download, e-browsing, e-commerce and permission marketing.

The inherent characteristics of all networks is that digital displays such as LCD or plasma located where people shop, wait or travel are centrally controlled to present media targeting an audience at a particular location and time.

Almost a million displays are operating in North America and savvy advertisers and communicators are achieving their branding, merchandising and awareness goals through these advertising, retail and staff or patron digital display networks.

In David Letterman style, the following offers the Top 10 reasons why the medium is so powerful. Each is then described in more detail.
1. It gets proven branding, merchandising and “call to action” results.
2. Location – Location – Location !
3. Measurability – Viewers and demographics
4. Demographic Targeting
5. Time of Day-Week-Month Placement
6. Price (It is a bargain for ROI-ROO)
7. Ease of flight planning and purchase
8. Growing inventory of networks, locations and displays
9. Positioning with other “digital” marketing channels
10. You just cannot, not look at relevant DS Content (It gets noticed)

The networks available to advertisers can be accessed through www.OVAB.org, www.OOHDigital.ca, www.Adcentricity.com, www.SeeSawNetworks.com or specific retailers or network operators such as CBS Outernet, NBC Everywhere and others.

The Top 10 Reasons Why DOOH is Such a Powerful Medium for Advertisers.

1. It gets proven branding, merchandising and “call to action” results.
While the measurement standards introduced by the Out-of-Home Video Advertising Bureau (OVAB) in late October 2008 reflect actions toward a measurement standard, many networks, retailers and brands have been conducting impact studies for years. Neilson, Arbitron, DS-IQ, Transearch and others have well developed methodologies and are able to provide metrics which define branding, merchandising effectiveness.
WalMart recently announced that it is proceeding to deploy its next generation of In-Store TV to further maximize its achievement of retailing goals, reflecting the proven capability of DOOH as an advertising medium.

Other retailers, advertisers, investors and communicators are equally bullish on the power of DOOH to generate Return on Investment (ROI), Return on Objectives (ROO) and Return on Effort (ROE).

2. Location – Location – Location !
DOOH brings “The Power of Place” described Suzanne Alecia, President of OVAB while presenting with agency representatives at the Strategy Institute’s DOOH Investors Conference. OVAB member networks exist in over 34,500 retail, transportation/travel, Health/Health Care, Office Buildings, Lifestyle and
Entertainment venues, delivering 2.4 billion in gross venue traffic monthly.

DOOH presents messages at the “point of purchase” which Proctor & Gamble has named the “First Moment of Truth,” in reflecting that all consumer messaging must start at the point of product selection and be focused on securing a consumer desire and alignment with a product to assure purchase intent.

Waiting areas in which a “captive audience” can be presented with messages (such as elevators, transit, medical offices, etc.) offer high value to advertisers. And while “out and about” messaging to consumers through DOOH can build brand awareness and purchase/action intent.

3. Measurability – Viewers and Demographics.
As referenced at point 1, measurement is advancing rapidly. Eye and shopper tracking tools such as those available from CognoVision, TruMedia, Quividi, VideoMining and others allow advertisers to know who is watching (i.e. age range, gender, etc.) to enable testing and tuning of ad impact, or a new paradigm of advertising called “Dynamic Ad Provisioning” whereby an ad is presented based on the demographic of
who is watching.

4. Demographic Targeting
There are several dimensions of this including the ability to target a demographic based on the location or time of day in which an ad is presented. The second is the ability to present messages on multiple DOOH displays while a target demographic goes about its day. SeeSaw Networks describes how ads might be presented to reach the “Millenials” demographic (18-25 year olds) in a given day through displays at for example, bus shelter, coffee shop, on campus, in a food court, gas station, bank machine, in mall, in a bar and washroom and finally through street furniture.

5. Time of Day-Week-Month Placement
DOOH allows advertisers to present ads at the time of year, month and day when they will be most effective. This time targeting reduces ad spending waste to further address the dilemma presented by John Wanamaker, the pioneering merchant, religious leader, civic and political figure who is considered the father of modern
advertising when (in about 1920) he said, “Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted… I just don’t know which half!”

6. Price (It is a bargain for ROI-ROO).
While offering better approaches and new paradigms of message targeting, DOOH is typically sold on a CPM (Cost per Thousand viewers) basis. Inherent capabilities for message targeting combined with attractive CPM rates make DOOH attractive on the media plan, providing high Return on Investment (ROI) and Return on Objectives.

7. Ease of “flight” planning and purchase.
Planning and buying media sits somewhere at the intersection of being an art, science, craft requiring discipline and tenacity on the part of ad agency and branding professionals. Longer-standing ad mediums such as TV, radio, print and internet have longer-standing approaches to assist in media planning and placement, although these are developing very rapidly in DOOH. Media planners and buyers charged with investigating DOOH will find it increasingly easy to access network information, 3rd party metrics. Gaining a proposal from a DOOH network operator is a phone call or email away.

8. Growing inventory of networks, locations and displays.
As of mid October, the 28 member networks of OVAB accounted for over 34,500 locations and 400,000+ displays covering all DMAs and providing total Gross Venue Traffic of 2.4 Billion monthly and 27.5 Billion annually according to Suzanne Alecia, OVAB President.

InfoTrends, Inc. reports that DOOH is growing at 25% CAGR toward $2.6B by year end 2011. The number of 837,000 displays currently installed in North America is growing by 18% annually. The 43% of these displays that are used primarily for 3rd party advertising is growing at 58% annually. Other displays are used for location branding, staff or patron communications.

The “fourth screen” of DOOH (so called after TV (1st screen), computer display (2nd screen) and handheld (3rd screen) has a growing inventory of usable and accessible displays. While this ad-based display inventory will grow, it can be easily imagined that displays not currently carrying advertising or sponsored messaging will in future provide part of its playlist for revenue-generating purposes.

9. Positioning with other “digital” marketing channels.
Economies, “speed to messaging” and communications flexibility are provided when content creation, composition, management, transport and presentation are all done digitally. This allows the cost-effective re-purposing of ads across media platforms and DOOH is positioned to leverage or excite other media platforms. This supports brand goals in creating “ubiquity”, an omni-presence with targeted demographics.

Messaging on DOOH can provide a website address, mobile download number or a telephone number, which when dialed from a cell phone provides a pre-recorded message specific to the ad display location for exhibit, product or other information,Wayfinding, voting, etc.

Given the ability to recycle 99.5% of technology components and to carry a large volume of ads in a completely digital communications supply chain, DOOH is very “Green.”

10. You just cannot, not look at relevant DS Content (It gets noticed).
Motion compels us to look at what’s moving – perhaps this behavior is burned into our DNA from our “caveman” days when motion represented either a possible meal or a threat. Dr. Hugh Philips, a cognitive psychologist has described in POPAI seminars that human beings “select” or “de-select” what they notice based on the relevance of what is presented. That being the case, motion video and animation coming and going on a dynamic display offers high probability of being seen, and relevant or interesting messages can then fulfill the objectives.

Don't Ever Do This To Your Kids. Learn It From This Insane Mother!

Argentina – A woman's bid to avoid paying a train fare nearly cost her the life of her daughter.
A girl is miraculously alive in Argentina after her mother lowered her onto the tracks just as a train was coming into the station, according to surveillance video.

Video released Friday by the commuter rail operator shows the woman guiding the child underneath the platform, apparently trying to hide from ticket collectors. The woman appears set to join the child hiding under the platform when suddenly she sees the train approaching.

The woman scrambles back up onto the platform, but her daughter remains below, the video shows.
As the train comes to a stop, the woman bends over and peers into the gap between the train and platform, apparently checking for the girl. Other commuters who witnessed the scene cluster around.

TBA workers ultimately were able to crawl underneath the platform where they found the girl terrified but unharmed, safely ensconced inside a tiny nook.

If you are a parent, please, just pay the fare than for being sorry!

Happy New Year 2011!!!!

I will seek elegance rather than luxury, refinement rather than fashion. I will seek to be worthy more than respectable, wealthy and not rich. I will study hard, think quietly, talk gently, and act frankly. I will listen to stars and birds, babes and sages, with an open heart. I will bear all things cheerfully, do all things bravely await occasions and hurry never. In a word I will let the spiritual, unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common.

Let this coming year be better than all the others. Vow to do some of the things you've always wanted to do but couldn't find the time. Call up a forgotten friend. Drop an old grudge, and replace it with some pleasant memories. Vow not to make a promise you don't think you can keep. Walk tall, and smile more. You'll look ten years younger. Don't be afraid to say, 'I love you'. Say it again. They are the sweetest words in the world.

Happy New Year everyone!
